Terms of Service

Please read these terms before using Bestead.

Effective as of June 30, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Bestead, an iOS app provided by Jan Christian - ME (“we,” “our,” or “us”). By downloading, accessing, or using Bestead, you agree to these Terms.

If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the app.

2. What Bestead Provides

Bestead provides CBT-informed self-help and habit-building tools for fathers, including mood tracking, guided journaling, short lessons, challenges, relationship exercises, progress exports, reminders, and reset tools.

Important health and crisis disclaimer

Bestead is not therapy, medical care, diagnosis, treatment, emergency care, or a crisis response service. If you are in immediate danger or may harm yourself or someone else, call emergency services. In the United States, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction, to use Bestead. The app is intended for adults and is not directed to children.

4. License and Restrictions

We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use Bestead on Apple devices that you own or control, subject to these Terms and Apple's App Store rules.

You may not:

  • Reverse engineer, modify, copy, or redistribute the app.
  • Use the app to violate laws, infringe rights, or harm another person.
  • Interfere with app security, backend systems, subscriptions, or access controls.
  • Use automated systems to abuse or overload app services.
  • Share subscription access outside Apple's permitted account and family sharing mechanisms.

5. Subscriptions and Payments

Bestead is a paid subscription app for its main features. Subscription purchases, renewals, billing, cancellation, and refunds are handled through Apple in-app purchase and your Apple ID.

  • Prices, trial eligibility, duration, and renewal terms are displayed in the app before purchase.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID account settings.
  • Refund requests are handled by Apple under Apple's refund policies.

The crisis reset tools are made available as a safety feature even when a subscription is not active.

6. User Content and Data

You are responsible for the notes, journal entries, mood data, prompts, and other content you enter into Bestead. You retain your rights in your content, but you grant us the limited permission needed to operate, sync, store, process, and support the app.

Do not enter content that you do not have the right to provide, or content that you do not want processed according to our Privacy Policy.

7. AI Features

Bestead may include AI-powered reflection or reframing features. AI output can be incomplete, inaccurate, or inappropriate for your situation. Review all AI-generated suggestions critically and do not rely on them as professional advice.

8. No Professional Advice

Bestead content is educational and self-help oriented. It does not establish a therapist-client, doctor-patient, or professional relationship. You are responsible for decisions you make based on app content.

Seek advice from qualified professionals for mental health, medical, legal, financial, or relationship concerns.

9. Third-Party Services

Bestead may use Apple services, Firebase, RevenueCat, OpenRouter, and other infrastructure providers. Those services may be governed by their own terms and policies.

10. Privacy

Our collection and use of information is described in the Bestead Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms.

11. Availability and Changes

We may update, suspend, discontinue, or change Bestead features at any time. We aim to keep the app reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that every feature will always be available.

12. Termination

You may stop using Bestead at any time by deleting the app and canceling your subscription through Apple if applicable. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, misuse the app, or create legal, security, or operational risk.

13. Disclaimers

Bestead is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee that the app will meet your needs, produce specific outcomes, or be error-free.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or personal decisions made based on app content.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by applicable laws of Brazil, except where local consumer protection laws require otherwise.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are made. Continued use of Bestead after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
